Healthcare practitioner capacity is a global challenge and one, which Academic Health Solutions has been designed to address. Working in partnership with linked top quality education providers and Medical Royal Colleges, we offer a wide range of services from specific training programmes to meet local need in a context-specific manner through to the design and implementation of whole new medical schools and their curricula.

Case study:
Health Education England
In 2022 Health Education England commissioned AHS, in partnership with Grant Thornton, in a project led by Malcolm Lowe-Lauri and Prof Sir John Tooke. Our task was to analyse and report on responses to HEE’s consultation for proposals on the future clinical workforce. We organised these into specific themes and categories. We went on to examine the implications of emerging science and technology on workforce, applying a robust AHS impact assessment method. We also undertook research and expert views from the AHS expert network to generate concepts for what future specialist activity might look like eg in Oncology, Diabetes.
Our work was very well received by HEE and incorporated into its submission for future workforce planning to NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care. We were required to present to the HEE Board and to a number of national workforce and education events.
